What is the Pearson Video Challenge?

It’s a dynamic, interactive new educational involvement and engagement
program that links in-class math instruction to real world situations making
math come to life for students. The Challenge is designed to enhance
and energize math instruction, making in-classroom lessons really stick.
It encourages students to expand the borders of their thinking and get
them excited about learning. This Challenge will make abstract
concepts make sense, and in so doing increase math competency
in a fun, activity-driven way.

How does it Work?

Teams of three students, guided by educators and Pearson experts, will create 2 to 4
minute videos in any genre they choose—drama, comedy, documentary, fantasy—and
add their own voice-over narrative explaining the connection between the images in
the video and core math principles they’ve learned in class. Videos selected by a
panel of experts will then be showcased online and will be incorporated into the
next generation of math instruction solutions from Pearson.

Does it work?

Studies demonstrate that students are more highly engaged and participatory as well as retaining and integrating more core concepts when presented to them by other students in their own words. Additionally, creative classroom activities that carry over to students’ at home lives positively impact their understanding and appreciation of important math concepts.
